About the New Facility

With a planned investment of ~INR 4,200 crore, (~US$ 450million) the facility will produce ingots and wafers — critical upstream inputs in the solar manufacturing chain.

Visakhapatnam is rapidly transforming into a major hub for advanced solar manufacturing and clean energy, driven by its strategic coastal location, port connectivity, and robust industrial infrastructure. This facility is ReNew’s commitment to that emerging identity and to building a more integrated, resilient clean energy ecosystem for the country.

Advancing scale, resilience and self-reliance
Solar manufacturing begins long before a panel reaches a rooftop. It begins with ingots and wafers — the upstream building blocks that feed every cell and every module. Today, this segment remains heavily import-dependent, creating a structural vulnerability in India’s clean energy supply chain.

The Visakhapatnam facility directly addresses that gap. By producing ingots and wafers domestically, at scale, ReNew is helping secure a part of the chain that India has not yet fully owned — reducing exposure to global supply disruptions and strengthening the country’s ability to sustain its clean energy ambitions on its own terms.

Deepening backward integration in solar manufacturing
ReNew already operates 6.5 GW of module capacity and 2.5 GW of cell capacity, with a further 4 GW cell expansion underway by December 2026. In FY2026 alone, its facilities produced over 4.1 GW of modules and nearly 1.86 GW of cells.

The Visakhapatnam facility adds the missing upstream layer — ingots and wafers — bringing ReNew closer to true end-to-end integration. Greater control over the supply chain means greater efficiency, resilience, and the ability to scale with confidence as India’s clean energy demand grows.
